Microchipping

Pet owners in south Louisiana are all too familiar with the threats of hurricanes, tropical storms, and flooding. As such, every pet parent should have a plan in place for their pets should the threat become real. In the event of a natural disaster or a fire, things can get hectic, chaos happens, and sometimes our pets get lost or left behind. Even something as ordinary as leaving the gate to your yard open can result in a missing pet. It is now common practice that when a stray pet is brought in to a shelter or a veterinary clinic, one of the first things they do is scan the pet for a microchip.

Microchipping is a method of providing permanent identification for your four-legged friend that can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged. A microchip is a safe, simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance for a happy reunion between you and your pet. A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin between the shoulder blades in a process similar to a vaccination. The procedure takes only a few minutes and can be completed during any visit to Family Pet Animal Hospital.

We use HomeAgain microchip products that have a patented anti-migration feature that ensures the microchip will stay in place for easy locating and scanning. The scanner will read the microchip’s unique dog or cat ID code that will be used to identify the pet and retrieve your contact information which will be used to reunite you with your pet. We will register your pet’s microchip in the national pet recovery database, and you will be required to finish the registration by adding your contact information and address.

Another nifty feature of the HomeAgain microchip is the temperature chip component; the temperature chip monitors the animal’s internal body temperature at all times. During any visit to the hospital, we can scan your pet’s microchip and determine your pet’s temperature without having to insert a thermometer! We are certain your pet will appreciate this feature too.

Family Pet Animal Hospital offers the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery and to provide you with peace of mind. We strongly recommend microchips for both indoor and outdoor pets living in Lockport, Larose, Golden Meadow, and the surrounding areas.

We are a family owned, companion animal, full service veterinary hospital that has supported the pet community in Lockport, Larose, Golden Meadow, and the surrounding areas of Louisiana since 2016.
